Holding the historic residence of this renowned naturalist and writer, the John Muir National Historic Site is a great place to study architectural history and this individual's personal contributions to society. As founder of the Sierra Club, Muir has had a massive impact on conservation efforts in the United States, and exhibits in the home and the adjacent Martinez Adobe help convey this history. The Victorian home is open for visitors to wander through and also offers guided tours at specific times throughout the day. Surrounding the home are nine acres of fruit orchards, providing space for a short scenic walk and sampling of fruits during the growing season. The site is positioned on the west edge of the town of Martinez, just a few miles from the Martinez Region Shoreline Park.
Open Wed. - Sun. 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Closed Mon. - Tue.
Entry fee (7 day pass): Adults $3; Children 15 and under are free.
